Fortunately with the Regional “list” system the method of counting aims to reflect the spread of voting.
With first past he post if one gets 35% but that is more than any one else then the party with 35% gets elected despite the fact that 65% did NOT want that party Scotland has suffered for this for generations have Tory rule forced on them.
For Holyrood we have a different system of counting which aims to reflect the spread of voting
I feel strongly that Scotland is on the verge of chasing the whole way the Establishment works and thinks and so hopefully can be that influence on the world that Greece missed.
If you feel the best thing for Scotland and so the world the SNP whole SNP and nothing bt the SNP then go ahead throw your 2nd vote to SNP as well
Remember the saying Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Without a doubt themes practical form of Government is a benevolent dictator. But where do we find that. I am sure Nicola Sturgeon has no aspirations to be a dictator benevolent or otherwise.
I accept that if one sees a better society through Independence then one vote for a pro Independent candidate. But we must in my view have a healthy spread of pro independence candidates. Monoculture is as bad in Parliament as it is in Nature.
The suggestion is that by by voting for a healthy mix one may let in a “Better Together” candidate – i.e. a Tory. Are enough people really going to vote for Tory in Central so as to let in extra Tories through he back door? I doubt it The D’Hondt system is designed to prevent just that. SNP and only SNP then go ahead and vote for SNP with both higher votes.
The D’honda system is designed and accepted as being good at leaving the spread of MSP reflecting the spread of votes. Use it and ensure we have a healthy mixture of (pro indolence )MSPs and not a monoculture of even a “good” party such as the SNP. Even Henry VIII started as a benevolent ruler. Remember what happens with too much power?
